Serge Poliakoff (1900-1969) was a Russian-born French abstract painter known for his vibrant color compositions and organic forms. Born in Moscow, he fled Russia during the Revolution and settled in Paris in 1923. Initially a musician, Poliakoff studied art at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and Académie Colarossi.
In the 1940s, he developed his signature style of non-figurative compositions with overlapping patches of color, influenced by Wassily Kandinsky and abstract principles. Gaining recognition in the 1950s and 1960s, he exhibited widely across Europe and became a French citizen in 1962.
Poliakoff's works, such as "Composition en Rouge" and "Bleu Rouge Jaune," are celebrated for their meditative quality and dynamic use of color. His art is held in major collections worldwide. Poliakoff passed away in Paris in 1969, leaving a lasting impact on abstract painting.
